Waiting for baby Sahara

Well it's been a long journey, but we finally have a baby girl! We received her referral September 23, 2011 at 10:36 am.

I so wish I could post her picture, but that must wait till she's officially ours.We will travel to meet her on Christmas. Our official court date is Dec 30th. She will be 7 months old that day. I will be staying in Ethiopia until she passes Embassy (which could take anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months). When she does, we will both head back to the U.S.

I hope to see y'all at the airport, even though I can't imagine how bad I'll look after many weeks of single parenting in a third-world country, and a 20 + hour flight alone with an infant (on second thought). :-) Who am I kidding. You won't be there to see me anyway!

Family

I am grateful to have been blessed with such a supportive family. My adoption plans have no doubt challenged their ideas of grandchildren, nieces and cousins over the years, but regardless of God's direction in our lives, they have NEVER failed to rise to the occassion. We have ALL waited a long time for what the Lord is doing and can't wait for Sahara to go from no family to THIS family!

Name Sake

When Kevin and I picked names for our girls, we decided each of us could pick a middle name. Kevin picked Rochelle for Hannah's middle name, after his precious grandmother. When it came to Sahara, it was my turn. I am surrounded by an incredible group of women, who have each had a signifigant impact on my life, so I had plenty of names to choose from. But when it came right down to it, my best friend won. God brought Stephanie into my life as an accountability partner 14 years ago. We grew more in our walks with the Lord (exponentially) back then than at any other time in our lives. It was a sweet time. But over the years, as our deep abiding love grew, it became more and more difficult for us to hold each other 'accountable' for anything. No matter how badly we behaved, we had a hard time seeing anything but perfection in one another! Our love is the closest example I know of God's unconditional love. When I feel unlovable, I run to her. And she points me to the one who loves me even more. I could not be more honored to give her middle name to Sahara, and I pray God will give each of my girls a "Stephanie" of their own someday. What a priceless gift.

The Nursery

About 6 months ago, God led me to sell the crib and pack up the nursery. It became a figurative blank slate for God to work with. I was not surprised that it was the first thing purchased on my baby registry. God is so good. Thank you McReynolds!! Isn't it just beautiful?!?!?!
